Ohhh, Liz and Chris! Remember their adorable engagement session on Liz’s mom’s horse farm? I knew their wedding would be as great as they are, and it was. :) Not only are they beautiful inside and out, they are perfect together and have a wonderful and supportive system of family and friends. We had a great time. It was a perfect outdoor ceremony and reception on a gorgeous day and had that subtle but sweet touch of southern charm. :) I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful wedding to photograph on their day!

Date: June 4, 2011

Venue: Weymouth Center, James Boyd House // Southern Pines, NC

Flowers: Aldena Frye Custom Floral Design

Caterer: Sweet Feed

Cake: The Bakehouse

Officiant: Reverend Stephen Huber

Reception Band: Christabel & The Jons

Ceremony Musicians: Jan Johannson (violinist), Julie Elkins (guitarist)

This is one of most gorgeous floral arrangements I’ve seen. Aldena Frye did a magnificent job on the bouquets and boutonnieres.

Liz and Chris didn’t do a first look as they spent the morning preparing for the wedding themselves. They met in the James Boyd library along with the rest of their family for toasts before the ceremony.

Absolutely adore the multiple cake table in every single way. The Bakehouse did an awesome job and yes, that is a sword in the front. They used it to cut their cake (awesome!!!). It belonged to Liz’s grandfather and has been used to cut several wedding cakes in their family.

That pine tree to your left is over 400 years old! Imagine all the weddings it’s seen. :)

I love this cute candid to the right that Geoff caught as they were walking to their receiving line.

I was beyond words excited for Christabel & The Jons. Not only were they our first live band to photograph during a wedding (it’s way overdue!), but they didn’t play covers, but rather their own music, which was beautiful. They are from Tennessee and play a beautiful mixture of swing, blues, and jazz. SO highly recommend it’s not even funny. Check out their link in the above vendor section if you’re looking for a band or just want to hear some sweet music. They tour all over as well, so you might be able to catch them some night locally.

This is one of my favorite photographs I’ve ever taken. Liz, you’re beautiful! Weymouth Center, you’re beautiful!

CAKE CUTTING WITH A SWORD! Aaaaamazing. Watch out there, Chris.

Seriously, what a beautiful beautiful wedding. The following conversation took place between Liz and I about a wedding before the wedding:

C: Is there a tent?

L: No, I don’t like tents.

C: Is there a rain back-up plan?

L: No, we’re just hoping it doesn’t rain.

Hahaha I though that Liz’s faith in the weather was utterly amazing and it definitely worked. And I definitely have to agree with her on the fact that I think a tent would’ve ruined the mood of this particular wedding. It just had too much of a gardeny summer night feel and a tent would’ve taken it away. We shot the reception slightly different because of it, alternating methods between the two of us, but I love how it turned out (and it was infinitely less stressful, so we may be switching over soon).

Congratulations, Liz and Chris! We wish you and your family the very best moving forward into married life! We had an amazing day with you!

Reshma+Darren’s wedding day finally came! This was a beautiful and very emotional day for not only the couple but for their families as well. And let me tell you, you could not find a more supportive, loving, community-conscious bunch. Main themes of the wedding centered not just around building a beautiful family out of Reshma, Darren, and Selena, but spreading that love and support into the community and helping others. I don’t think I’ve ever seen families less selfish on what is typically a pretty selfish day. ;) It was beautiful! And of course, our bride was GORGEOUS and Darren was handsome and Selena was adorable… as usual. :)

I looooved this room for a wedding ceremony. The circular-ness (is that a word?) made for a very intimate vibe. It was also fun to take pictures of. :)

Raleigh wedding photographerReverend Kayelily Middleton was the ceremony officiant and did a beautiful job. She was very calm, serene, and tied this ceremony’s Hindu and Christian aspects together perfectly. Reshma’s family is of the Hindu faith, while Darren’s is Christian, so they decided on a fusion wedding ceremony incorporating parts of each other’s traditions. Reshma’s daughter (now Darren’s lovely daughter as well!) served as the beautiful flowergirl. :)

Reverend Kayelily MiddletonReshma was walked down the aisle by both her father, (Dr!) Babu and her brother, (Dr!) Sheel. Not a bad deal at all! ;)

Raleigh wedding photographerThe couple had a unity candle and performed the Mangal Phera – circling around the holy fire symbolizing the walk of life. They walked clockwise around the circular table four times with Reshma leading the first three, and Darren leading the last.

Raleigh wedding photographerThey then performed the Saptapati – the seven steps of marriage vows. The couple would speak their vows while taking small steps around the table.

Raleigh wedding photographerLast, Darren ties a sacred necklace around the bride’s neck. This is known as the Mangal Sutra. The necklace symbolizes a married woman.

Raleigh wedding photographerThey did incorporate the “you may kiss the bride” into the ceremony. Her mother Meena, who is hilarious and adorable and also lived in Pittsburgh (!), leaned over during the rehearsal to tell me, “They are doing the kissing thing. We told them it was okay, but with weddings in our culture we normally say no… no kissing!” :) This, as well as a unity sand ceremony they performed with Selena, was part of the incorporation of a traditional Christian ceremony along with several prayers from both the Christian faith and the Hindu faith.

Raleigh wedding photographerSo for those of you who’ve been to the Streets of Southpoint, where Maggiano’s is located in Durham, it’s basically an upscale outdoor mall type of area. So what better background to shoot with than the Anthropologie wall?! :)

Reshma: Of course you do.

Raleigh wedding photographerLADIES – DO NOT BE AFRAID OF THE FLUFFY DRESSES. THEY MAKE FOR BEAUTIFUL PICTURES. Her dress was gooorgeous. And this ring shot, although very simple, is probably my favorite one to date.

Raleigh wedding photographerThe father-daughter dance was very emotional. I typically do not cry at weddings. When I’m happy, I’m happy – not crying. But this got me a little choked up and I think made all girls in the room miss their dads.

Simply CakesTim, the DJ, did a great job during the ceremony and the reception. DJs are surprisingly one of the people the photographer interacts with the most at the wedding, and it’s always fun when you get along and can work in sync!

Thank you, Reshma, Darren, Selena, and families and friends of the couple, for a beautiful wedding day and for your patience, help, and support along the way. :) We look forward to seeing you again soon! Darren – we owe you a session with your Dallas Cowboys gear… we guess. :P :D

Who says February engagement sessions can’t be chock full of awesome?! Katelyn (Katie) and Blake were engaged in December and will be having their wedding in October in Texas. Blake is in the army and stationed in North Carolina while Katie is still living in Texas but flies in often to see him. She called me about doing their engagement pictures in Raleigh, and we discussed a couple of different options for locations. They were conflicted about two different looks: the tall, grassy field look and the bright colored background look. Usually it’s one or the other and it’s difficult to find a place to do both, but we ended up taking the nature ones at Fletcher Park and then making a short hop and skip to do the rest in downtown Raleigh.

It’s difficult to tell these were even taken in February with the lovely colors they chose to wear and the happy sunshine that followed us. :)

And before you see these, I must warn you… YES – Katie’s eyes are really that gorgeous… and YES –  They are both that ridiculously good looking. AND FUN. I just love these two!!! Also, it never gets old to have a guy tell you at the end of the session, “Wow, that was a blast! I wasn’t expecting it to be that fun!” :)

Of course, thanks to the clients for being awesome/trust, and to Geoff, for assisting and capturing some great shots as my second shooter!
