We are so grateful and happy to have had a wonderful year of weddings! Allison and Daniel are going to be the last wedding on the blog for 2015, but don’t worry, we’ll resume right away again with portraits in January and weddings to follow soon after that! :) 2015’s wedding season went out on a wonderful note for us! For those of you who don’t know, downtown Raleigh (and in particular City Market) opened a new wedding venue called 214 Martin Street (based on, you guessed it, its address). It’s a fantastic new venue right next to the old Cobblestone Hall (now operating under a different name and by different people with a storyline I couldn’t quite follow). But it’s great, and we were happy to end our season shooting at a different place!

We were also super glad to have had great clients to work with. Allison and Daniel braved a very chilly day with incredible grace and lots of laughter. They also were our first clients to have Tuffy (aka Mr. Wuf, the NC State mascot) make an appearance at their reception, much to the delight of everyone there, but particularly me, who went to school in Pennsylvania but just really likes wolves and also mascots. The maid of honor also gifted Allison and Daniel a giant cardboard cutout of their adorable dog and a little kid danced around with it on the dance floor for the entire evening without stopping which might not sound that hilarious, but it really was. We were so happy to end 2015 on a great note with great people! Cheers!

  • Ceremony + Reception Venue: 214 Martin Street // Raleigh, NC
  • First Dance Song: “Something” – The Beatles
  • Allison’s Occupation: English Instructor
  • Daniel: Production Manager
  • How You Met: We met at a Halloween bar crawl in downtown Raleigh. Daniel was one of the few people who could guess Allison’s costume (she was “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”).
  • Interesting Fact: One of the first things we learned about each other is that we both have/had a dog named Skully. We currently have a golden named Skully who Allison had when they met. Daniel used to have a beagle named Scully. Different spellings, but still weird.

We’ve always liked Katie and Phil because they’ve always been super chill about their wedding: realistic and not overly-concerned and very “go with the flow” type of people. Also because they have a cat named Carlton. On the day of their wedding, Katie donned a pretty fabulous stole that she found at some thrift store and repurposed for wedding attire, and which I enjoyed wearing over my bomber jacket between takes (I looked good). Considering that we were shooting downtown in a bit of a wind tunnel on an already windy day and in the cold, the stole kept us pretty warm, and the wind contributed to lots of model-hair shots so we couldn’t be too upset with it.

They had a friend-filled cast for their vendors, including a friend officiant, a friend wedding planner, videography done by the guests with iphones (Wedit is awesome), and a catering staff that Katie works with, who all, at one point, joined them on the dance floor. I was also taking photos of some details when I heard my name being called and turned to greet Steve and Becky, who were wedding clients of ours way back in 2012! Katie and Phil were also apparently at that wedding but none of us made the connection. We also had future clients of ours, Jasmine and Joel, who also greeted us at Katie and Phil’s reception, so it was a big happy reunion/meeting. It’s a small world indeed, and I think the fact that our clients are friends without realizing they have a photographer in common is testament to the fact that our clients have good taste. ;) Congratulations, Katie and Phil!

I feel like it’s been a while since we posted just a good ole engagement session up in here! A couple of our sessions have been rained out or postponed for various things, and we’ve been out of town a lot, so now’s a good chance to jump back into the portraits. We shot these ones of Callie and Jeff, two pretty rad people getting married in the spring, outside of the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh and down around Historic Oakwood. Those two adorable furry things with them are named Harper (black lab – 9) and Abbi (hound/beagle/dog? – almost a year). They were really well behaved and mostly cooperative and 100% cute (the dogs, not Callie and Jeff, although they were also well behaved, cooperative, and cute). Here we are lurking around the neighborhood while staying on the sidewalks so we can’t legally be held responsible for said lurking. Enjoy.
