Amy and Cullen are the bee’s knees. Cute, cute, very cute, and more cute. They are SO fun and SO giggly and basically a photographer’s dream to work with. It poured the morning of their wedding. Like, torrential. And it had been pouring for several days prior. And ground was muddy, yet this would not stop them! Brave and valiant souls, they still wanted to go outside for pictures and had their ceremony in front of the gorgeous butterfly conservatory at the Museum of Life and Science. Thank goodness, too, because that place looks like Jurassic Park and is quite fun to shoot as someone who loves plants, butterflies, and also escaped raptors.

The way these guys found us is kind of fun, as Amy used to do framing. She did the custom framing for this fab family, whom we’ve done photographs for the past several years. They have what I consider to be a bonafide Museum of Carolyn Scott Photography, and I was so glad to meet the gal who did some of their incredible framing! Amy also loves Halloween and was attracted to our bats, much in the same way that we’re attracted to her Nightmare Before Christmas tattoo. It was a match made in heaven. Also, there’s Cullen, who is a wonderfully fun redhead and whom I now possess much reception photo blackmail over, and I’m pretty sure neither one of us would have it any other way. We adored working with this whole crew and were so thrilled the rain held off for this one!

Bonus picture: Geoff feeling incredibly uncomfortable and laughing nervously after a Pittsburgh Steelers-colored butterfly lands on his neck and refuses to leave during the butterfly release ceremony. Occupational hazards of a fluttery nature. ;)

Stephanie and Tim love pizza, Stranger Things, and each other. You may remember them from their engagement session at 21C Museum Hotel that ended with them eating pizza at Pie Pushers. We spent most of that engagement session discussing *spoiler alert* Barb’s untimely end in season one of Stranger Things and how justice might eventually be served… served just like their pizza. And although the jury on justice for Barb is still kinda out, the jury on Stephanie and Tim’s wedding where they also were served pizza again is IN and the jury says “EXCELLENT.” We got special permission from The Durham to shoot on the rooftop as Stephanie and Tim were guests there that evening and the light was purrrdy. Then NC Comic-Con was taking place and lots of fabulous characters graced us with their presence as we did photos downtown. And finally Stephanie and Tim were married in a beautiful indoor ceremony at The Rickhouse, which culminated with pizza and ice cream, which is the married dinner of champions.

So while things didn’t work out so well for Barb, they did work out excellently for Stephanie and Tim, and we were so happy to be a part of their day. They are fun and hilarious and easy-going, and they have an amazing group of friends (shout-out to a phenomenally cooperative and stylish wedding party). Also, be on the look out for their cake topper which is one of the best we’ve ever seen. Thank you from the bottom of our upside-down hearts for having us as your wedding photographers, guys. THE PIZZA WAS TASTY AND YOU GUYS ARE SWELL.

So happy to have worked with the real Julia Roberts and Erik Johnson. Our first celebrity wedding of non-celebrities with celebrity names. They are two incredibly kindhearted people who were so excited to get married and we were so happy we were there. We also got to work alongside friend/college Janice of Big Dog Little Bed Production Company who did the videography, and whose footage we frequently photobombed. The rest of their vendors were equally great, and so was their bridal party! The groomsmen helped Erik to practice the first look with the help of a 21C Museum Hotel penguin (it kind of looks like a scene from Weekend at Bernie’s) and a bridesmaid assisted with amplifying the music from someone’s phone speaker by putting it near her open mouth (which somehow worked). They were a very helpful and endearing bunch.

The ceremony was held at Duke Chapel which is always classic and timeless, and waded through a sea of 99% humidity for their pictures. We laughed, we cried, we gave Erik a hard time about identifying body parts for poses because he’s a doctor. At one point we were warned about “a group of 700 campers” that were approaching the campus and got the heck out of there… although if there’s a great excuse to be late to your ceremony, 700 campers is probably the best one. Their ceremony was lovely, and afterward we all proceeded to The Cotton Room where colorful paper cranes folded by Julia adorned all the plates with their guests’ names. I love paper cranes. I think because they’re happy, but also because I can’t fold them, so they impress me. In addition to their lovely paper cranes, they also had adorable husband+wife bulldog cake toppers. I believe these bulldogs were affiliated with their college but anything related to college mascots gets thrown aside by my mind in exchange for the obvious cuteness of bulldogs in tiny top hats and veils. I can’t even. It was a beautiful summer wedding with two amazing people, and we were so excited to be a part of it!
