Raleigh Wedding

Michelle fulfilled my ongoing search for the unicorn bride: tattoos, short hair, and tea-length dress. Richard knows a lot about Star Wars. Together, they had cat-themed thank you gifts and a guest book consisting of two framed artwork portraits of cats in formalwear. Bonus bonus bonus points: Michelle is gluten-free so I could eat everything at this wedding, including all of the flavors of cupcakes, of which I had both chocolate and lemon (thank you, JP’s Pastry, for making me a very happy woman on this day). They were married on a very hot and sunny day at Fred Fletcher Park near downtown Raleigh amid some blooming Magnolia trees, an old and beautiful historic building, and some bridesmaids wearing fake mustaches. We laughed, we cried, we watched people do the Single Ladies dance. All in a fantastic day’s work for these two very awesome people.

Occupations: Richard is starting as an assistant professor and Michelle is starting a position in social research at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in August.
How You Met: Wet met in graduate school at NCSU – Richard was two years ahead of Michelle in the sociology program.
Interesting Fact: Richard and Michelle play a lot of board games together.
Honeymoon: England for work/mini-honeymoon in June, and then a full honeymoon to a beach resort in December.

Sarah+Tim // Duke Forest Wedding

Sarah and Tim introduced us to the lovely concept of a pop-up wedding (inspired by a company in DC that officiates and photographs local elopements). They wanted to essentially pick a nice naturey spot in Durham, show up with their closest family and friends, and get married without a formal booking. It’s like an even less formal elopement. And the less formal the better, so we jumped on board and were happy to join Sarah and Tim and their 25 people of choice at the Shepherd Nature Trail in Duke Forest for some weddingy goodness. They got ready in an awesome Airbnb rental house near downtown and we all followed caravan-style to the ceremony site where they married in the forest. Some bubbles, hugs, and photos later, we all rejoined in downtown Durham at Rue Cler for some tasty food and congratulations. It was short, sweet, and a fantastic way to spend a couple hours on a Friday evening. :)

Sarah’s Occupation: Sarah is a social worker who helps communities support social justice, sustainable economic development, and environmental stewardship.
Tim’s Occupation: Tim is an attorney who works with early stage companies and the like.
How You Met: During summers in college, Tim worked as a lifeguard with Sarah’s high school friends, who introduced them. Tim was smitten immediately, but it was Sarah who called him to meet up at a concert they both had previously planned to attend the next day. The rest is history!
Interesting Fact: Sarah and Tim lived and worked in Sevilla, Spain for a year after graduating from college.
Honeymoon: Minimoon – Outer Banks, NC; Honeymoon – Yet to be decided!

Annie+Kunal’s Wedding in Durham

Annie and Kunal finally broke our rain-streak for weddings at The Cotton Room, so we’re guessing that choosing Friday, May 15th as the date for their wedding due to its auspiciousness worked out. :) It was also, adorably, Kunal’s parents’ 33rd wedding anniversary (they got them their own anniversary cake to cut!). Annie looked stunning, Kunal looked handsome, and they decorated their venue with beautiful purple and yellow details, gorgeous floral arrangements, little wedding cakes and sequined table cloths. Then we added in a dash of graffiti and some skateboarders just to balance things out a bit and they were totally cool with it because Annie and Kunal are super nice and wonderful people. Super smiley, super happy, super polite, and super chill. We were so happy to be there with them on their wedding day and also to be given the chance to eat their fantastic Indian food too! We love these guys a lot and wish them the best in their new journey to live and work in New Mexico!
