Class of 2017.

Phew. Many of you know that this was a crap year for us. We had a significant death in the family, a laundry closet that was flooded, two cats in the emergency hospital, a computer that died, and a small kitchen fire that Carolyn valiantly extinguished… saving the lives of everyone in attendance. We blame 100% of the bad things that happened to us on a small wooden tiki carving we discovered under the dryer in said pre-flooded laundry closet, but that’s neither here nor there. Anyway, it sucked. We were hit with one thing after the other. But you know what didn’t suck? Our 2017 professional year. It ruled. Every single one of our clients was sane, kind, welcoming, pleasant, and fabulous in every way. We got hugs and thank you letters and toys for our cats and invitations to drinks and gatherings and copies of Hocus Pocus on DVD. You all took immense care of us this year when we needed it most, and we can’t thank you enough. You all were a very special class indeed, and we’re glad to see you graduate ::sheds tear::. I’m not sure where you’re graduating to… but… come back and visit us, please. We love each and every one of you. Thanks for making a bad year have tremendously good moments.

The year end “Class Of” posts date back to 2011.

Jacques and Lindsey are back! And you definitely know these guys if you’ve been following us for any period of time. We did a family session with them, their kiddo Elizabeth, and Elizabeth’s extended family back in 2014, and then we did a now well-known headshot/promo session with Jacques back in 2015 for his comic book business Not So Super Comics. And now they’re back! They have a new kiddo named Eleanor, and Elizabeth has become a fantastic big sister. This afternoon was all about having the kids spend time with their extended family of grandparents, aunts, and uncles all in once space and having quality family time together. They had fun playing with bubbles, musical instruments, and walking down to the lake. The kids also had a great time showing us their extraordinary homeschool setup brought to you by their awesome teacher-mom Lindsey! It is incredible, and the kids were learning about circuits. Yep, circuits. I don’t even know anything about circuits and I’m 32. It was also about distracting their dad as he tries to work on his upcoming Kickstarter campaign.

That’s righhht, Not So Super Comics fans! A new Kickstarter is coming very, very soon as Not So Super Comics morphs into Not So Super Publishing. Yesss, publishing! Jacques is writing two picture books for little and big kids and adult kids alike called “Gumgah & The Grumpledonk” and another called “The Booger Queen” that are sure to delight. As a previous Kickstarter supporter of Jacques and owner of all his comics, we can say that his writing is fantastic, fun, and thoughtful, and we are so excited to read what he’s come up with! He vows to be a publisher “of fun and inclusive comics, picture books, and art that all kinds of people can enjoy,” and we are so glad to be a part of his project!

We did a few short promo photos for him prior to the family session in order for him to create a Kickstarter video, and we tried to channel all the Reading Rainbow vibes that we could short of inserting animated butterflies (kinda hoping Jacques does that somehow in the final product but no pressure Jacques, I know you probably are busy with, you know, writing).

So go follow Jacques! He is available in all these places. Follow him so you can hear about his Kickstarter news!

And now I’ll let you guys see his adorable family. We are so happy to have had the chance to work with all of you again, and are anxiously awaiting the new books!

Promo sessions are funnnn and they get even more fun when they’re for an aspiring actress who is just starting her career and whose name is Genesis. I won’t even give her last name here because I’m in the habit of not last-naming people on my blog but rest assured that her entire name makes her sound like some sort of incredibly badass superhero. She mentioned that it would be a shame for her to go through life with her badass name and not become an actress, and I agree, because she’s gotta put this awesome name to use. She told me people frequently think of her name as possibly being religious, and I disclosed that the first thing I thought of is Phil Collins. So I’m not sure what that says about me, but I do love Phil Collins.

Anyway, her initial e-mail came with instructions that we “assist as visual liaison to subject, so she can go on auditions. This subject is “no fuss” and will comply with your direction. She will be equipped in black as per usual and will have been fed.” People that have been fed are my favorite. So Genesis won us over quite fully and immediately. Then we found her Twitter account and discovered her intense love of Halloween is one that rivals our own, as well as her love for cats, and use of Gifs. We like her a lot. We agreed to her photoshoot on the condition that should she become famous, she needs to thank us in every speech, as well as credit us repeatedly and obnoxiously on IMDB. She’s agreed to our terms, so now it’s time for her to GO FORTH and use these photos and get famous. She is aspiring to a Sigourney Weaver-type, alien-ass-kicking, trench coat-wearing, Sci-fi babe and I think she already is one. Also hey Genesis if you do meet Phil Collins if he needs headshots for anything just give him our card, ok?
