so when we were at the beach we spotted these crazy lizards on our deck. they were green but had stretchy red skin under their mouths that would puff out every time they breathed. sweet!:

anyway – they’re called carolina anoles and they are awesome. they can change colors kind of like a chameleon, but they can’t change their color to match whatever they’re on. they pretty much alternate between bright green and brown. sometimes they have awesome stripes and blue eyes:

they hopped around our decks all week and jumped into trees when they saw us coming. pretty cool little dudes. just part of our wildlife adventures. geoff and laura saw several bald eagles while i was driving. despite my swerving and my shouts of, “WHERE? WHERE?” i saw nothing.

and of course, despite my promises of updating every day, i forgot to update yesterday. but it was friday, ok? that should be a given. we went out to dinner with geoff’s cousin and his wife and then saw the hangover. it’s an amazing movie.

the beach!

so recently my mom, dad, and sister came down to NC from the ‘burgh so that we could all go on vacation in cape hatteras. we rented a totally sweet beach house and kicked up our feet for a while. the next several blog entries will document the hilarity (and moments of insanity) of the beach trip.

we fed hush puppies to crabs, took a femur boogie boarding, and were stranded on an island waiting for the bomb squad. more details on all of these things to follow. and, of course, we rode on lots of boats:

in terms of wildlife, we saw lots of lizards, crabs, tree frogs, and OH YEAH A BEAR. unfortunately, there is no picture of the bear. here’s a flower growing near the beach instead:

it was a great vacation. i took a lot of photographs of the wildlife (minus the bear), the cape hatteras lighthouse, and a bunch of our different shinanegans. we woke up really early several times to get pictures of crabs (more on this later), but ended up with great light for morning shots:

the beaches there are really empty – even during the day – which is a nice and welcome change from atlantic city (i still love you, new jersey!). but they were completely empty in the morning and it was gorgeous!

more details on the beach later to come. so much to edit, so little time.

so when i first started this blog i pretty much vowed to update it every day like a good photographer should. however, life comes along and you get distracted. jobs, family, and friends happen and the next thing you know is that you haven’t updated in several weeks. orrr it could also be that you’re way too busy watching all the episodes of LOST that you’ve got stockpiled in your netflix cue… enough to probably last you a good several months. either way.

anyway, i’ve taken tons of pictures since memorial day. (that’s right, i have pictures from memorial day that i’ve been meaning to post). i’ve been sorting through them and slowly editing, but now i can’t find a reason to write about things that happened several months ago. so here’s the deal – i am going to be updating every day and include at least one picture from past or present shoots. i might write about photography… i might write about something completely random. but it’ll be a post everyday! really! i mean it this time! :)

memorial day:

this memorial day we had fireworks in pittsburgh with our family back home.  it was a lot of fun (until the neighbors called the cops). geoff’s little cousins were there being cute:

geoff was there, being ridiculous:

and my dad was there… standing way too close to all of the explosives:

not pictured: everyone else.

also – more on the actual dangers of fireworks later this week.

updating is fun!
