C’est (pronounced “say” for you non-French speakers) is my best friend from high school. Her real name is Laurie, but I only call her that when I’m trying to let everyone else know who I’m talking about. We knew each other vaguely through her being in a musical with my sister, but we officially met in French class where we discovered the term c’est (“it is”) and began introducing ourselves as such after we realized that we were a good match with my pants made out of city skyline fabric that I wore every day and Laurie with her Beastie Boys shirts. Eventually we got sick of adding our names after c’est and just shortened it to c’est. We both call each other that, and our French teacher told us that that’s not really how it works, but we kinda don’t care. The name stuck through all of high school and the forever beyond, and I’ve now delightfully tacked it on to the end of her New Zealand husband’s name (you’re welcome, Neil!) because that’s how marriage works.

C’est and Neilc’est met in England, but Neilc’est is really from New Zealand: land of no small mammals but lots of birds. C’est moved from Pittsburgh to England to go to school and Neilc’est moved from New Zealand to England for work and they met there through mutual friends. They then decided, “Hey, let’s go to Scotland!”, so they did. They lived there for a while, presumably living off of scones and meatpies and swimming around lochs. They recently moved back to Pittsburgh and got married in an anarchist bookstore that hosts weddings sometimes. We were sadly unable to attend as we had a client in NC that day, so we took ’em out for pictures in Mellon Park when we were in Pittsburgh last to get some pictures of them being married and running around. C’est used to go to Mellon Park when she was little. We made her stand behind Neil a lot act like his arms… because that’s how mature we are.

Yet another blast from Geoff’s high school past is gracing us with their presence on the blog today! Katie was Geoff’s friend from high school, the younger sister of a couple of his other friends, and she ended up running in the same circle as many of my high school friends as well, so we’ve both known her for a long time (she looks exactly the same). This was our first time meeting her pretty darn awesome fiancé Eric, and all of our first times playing bongos on the Roberto Clemente bridge (well… I think it was a first time for all of us anyway). They fed the ducks and geese. The geese kinda attacked Eric. We ran from the geese. We took some pictures on the North Shore next to the stadium of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and then ran on over to the Strip District to take some cool shots by the Acme Banana Co., which was apparently a lifelong engagement session dream of Katie… who adores this abandoned building simply because of its name (and adores it less for its abundance of creepy spiders). Katie and Eric stood around and modeled for us and looked ridiculously good looking. A good time was had by all… except for that part with the geese. We wish these two the best of the best at their wedding in the fall and in their awesome life!

Okay, get ready to follow this. Ashley and her husband Dave booked us last year for their wedding because Ashley, who went to high school with my older sister Laura, accidentally landed on a plane right next to her flying to Los Angeles and started talking about her wedding, where my sister chimed in and recommended us. Ashley, in turn, recommended us to Julie, who then e-mailed us to ask about our availability, when we all found out that her fiancé Ian used to play baseball with Geoff in high school (Geoff also went to high school with Julie but was a few years above her). Mmm, six degrees of CSP bacon. :)

They got married in a town called Oakmont outside of Pittsburgh which is a few minutes from where all of us grew up. I’ve driven past this church a hundred times but was never inside until now (I always find it interesting to get to go inside places in Pennsylvania that I never visited when I lived there but get to go there now when we live in North Carolina). Geoff saw a ton of people that he knew at the wedding or who knew his dad (who umpires locally). Geoff was not quite easily spotted due to the giant beard that was notably absent in high school. ;)

Julie and Ian are super sweet together and have a great support group of family and friends. Geoff immediately declared Ian was going to be quite easy to work with due to his constant smiling, and this was very much the case for both him and Julie, too. We had an awesome time and were excited and honored to be brought back to the ‘Burgh to shoot their wedding! Congratulations, guys!
