i’m slowly getting things accomplished this week. the sand is finally out of all of my clothing and it’s all being washed. although sand really never does come out of everything, does it. it’s still always lingering in your car, clothes, places that never were anywhere near the beach, etc.

i’m looking into posting an ad in the indy, raleigh’s Independent Weekly newspaper. we’re drawing up something at the moment. right now i get all of my clients from craigslist and personal reference. it’ll be kinda cool to see what the indy does. i also made a bunch of awesome postcards to hang up places around town… kind of like a flyer, but more badass. we’ll see how that does.

i’m shooting food for the first time professionally on sunday at a german restaurant in cary. the man i’m working for is the dad of one of the boys on my website. nice to have repeat clients! i’m looking forward to working with him again and for shooting food for the restaurant. should get some good beer shots!

i need to edit the pictures i took of my sister’s cats several months ago. yes, several months. she’s my sister, so she knew it would be a while til i got around to them. :) they’re probably huge now. they were pretty tiny when i took them.

in exciting news, lots of peeps will be visiting in august. my friends and adorable couple greg and matt are coming soon and want portraits – something i’m super excited and flattered to be doing. greg does absolutely amazing photography himself and inspires me greatly. his style is unique and gorgeous! you can see some of his photos here.

this calls for a throwback:

so during our beach trip we woke up several times before it was light in order to get down to the beach and get shots of the crabs. when we went to cape hatteras when i was little (and still willing to wake up before dawn), the ghost crabs were always out in the early morning light. however, they must’ve decided, like me, that they’d rather stay up late and sleep in because no crabs were ever out. sure there were some really tiny ones, but not like the kind we knew.

so one night geoff, laura, and i ventured out into the mosquito infested wildnerness covered in deet and decided to look for the crabs at night. and voila! we have crabs. we took a flashlight, but there were so many of them we were practically jumping to avoid stepping on them. they were all fiddler crabs and ghost crabs.

crab-copy“weeeeee!”

needless to say, they are terrified of my flash. they jumped into the air when i shot it. felt kinda bad.

anyway, the next night my parents took us out to dinner and we had leftover hush puppies. so of course, we all went down to the beach and tried to feed them to the crabs like any sane and respectable family would do.

but it worked! and OH MAN do crabs love hush puppies. they grab them and run. and all the while you swear you can hear them laughing:

crabhushpuppy“hahaha! so long, suckers!”

if you can’t tell, the photography skills required to catch a crab in pure darkness with a telephoto lens while laughing hysterically are hard to acquire, so i did the best i could. this was one of the crabs, running frantically away after snatching the hush puppy and presumably taking it back it’s crabby liar to feast for the next several years.

i miss the beach!

on may 30th i had the privledge of photographing the wedding of Julie and Evan Magill. their ceremony was at the raleigh rose garden and little theater and their reception was at their house. it was an absolutely beautiful wedding with the bride and groom being a really adorable couple. i am so thankful to have photographed the wedding of this amazing couple! julie, evan, and their guests made the wedding a blast.

it was also a privledge to work with reverend barbara lodge at the ceremony. her service was gorgeous and reflected the love between julie and evan perfectly. to learn more about rev. lodge’s services, please visit her website at http://www.ncweddingminister.com. she also runs a great blog that updates all of her travels and events.

another professional i worked with at the wedding was DJ stephen scott (not related to my dad of the exact same name). :) stephen was great and brought the party to the reception with the music. he was very organized and friendly and made things run very smoothly. to learn more about stephen scott and his services, please visit http://www.showproevents.com.

it was great to network and meet all these awesome people. i can’t wait to do it again! :) my favorite shots of the day are, of course, in the portfolio section of my website.  please check them out. here are some more from the day and some bridal shots julie and i shot a few weeks before the wedding:
