raleigh portrait photographer: derica+ian.

last month i held an end of summer contest to thank my blog and newsletter readers for referrals. the winner would receive a free session and 50 4×6 proofs. derica justice was the lucky winner! she wanted to use her session for new portraits of her and her hubby ian, who haven’t had pictures since their wedding a few years ago. i was super excited to work with derica as she is our fantastic invitation/program/thank you card designer for our wedding!! (pictures of our invitations and interview with derica coming soon).  we loved derica’s work and i thought it was cool that we got this chance to both sort of work with each other’s business. cool!

they wanted some fun and funky pictures downtown with their dog maggie, who was super adorable and well-behaved even though she is terrified to walk over grates, which i found adorable. :)

they wanted their picture by the NC state logo which was sandwiched between duke and unc…and while duke got the cold shoulder, ian decided to take care of unc by positioning this hand over their logo. ;)

meet a super sweet and adorable family whose october wedding you can expect to see in a little over a month! :) kelsey and adam are not only getting ready to tie the knot, they also just welcomed their newborn baby emma into the world not too long ago. when we discussed doing an engagement session, we decided we would wait until emma was born and settled in before we took some newborn/family/engagement pictures. i had been following emma’s growing-up progress via kelsey’s facebook pictures to the point where i already felt like i knew her when i met her, but she’s so much more beautiful in person than in a photograph! what a cutie. :) and oh yeah, kelsey and adam are super cute too! we had such a great time. can’t wait for their wedding next month!

YAY! can’t wait to see you two next month!

adventures in gluten-free chex mix.

after a string of irritating incidents at wake med, i’m now taking my gluten problem to an allergist. i get sick when i eat anything with gluten in it…what don’t you understand about that, wake med? i can’t eat it. no, i don’t want you to test my pancreas. no, i don’t want you to see if my liver or gall bladder is failing. i have no symptoms of that, but i do have a history of being allergic to wheat. i feel fine…except when i eat wheat. geeeeeeez. (can you tell i’m leaving wake med yet?) :)

anyway, geoff and i made delicious delicious gluten-free chex mix this weekend if anyone out there is gluten-free and interested! you’d be surprised what things have gluten in them, so i listed the brands as well.

gluten free chex mix

Mix in a large microwave-safe bowl:

4 1/2 cups Corn Chex

4 1/2 cups Rice Chex

2 cups Glutino Gluten Free Pretzels

**

Melt & mix in small bowl:

6 tbsp butter

2 tbsp Lea + Perrins Worcestershire Sauce

1 1/2 tsp season salt

3/4 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp onion powder

**

Pour mixture from small bowl over the large bowl and microwave on high for 5-6 minutes, stirring every 2 minutes.

Spread evenly to cool.

Add back into a large bowl and add 2 cups Reese’s Pieces (M&Ms are traditionally used but they do contain gluten, so if you’re sensitive, use Reese’s).

Enjoy! :)
