Geoff and I had several weeks there (12 weeks, actually) where we were out of town for almost every weekend. Emily and Charlie’s wedding was our first local wedding back, and we couldn’t have gotten back into the swing of localness with a better venue, better vendors or, of course, a better couple (granted, Charlie is a Phillies fan, but we don’t hold that against him). We love farm weddings as they tend to be really chill. This wasn’t actually chill because it was pushing 90+ degrees, but the people were absolutely lovely. :) Emily and Charlie were married by their friend (who gave them an amazing and humorous ceremony) and then joined their friends and family in the barn afterward for dancing.

Now – we see a lot of receptions and we see a lot of dancing. We typically know when there’s going to be a lot of dancing, and when there might not be so much dancing. This particular group of guests were very polite and well behaved and quiet, which usually means that they won’t be too much into the dancing. It was also very, very hot. Very hot. We were kind of sweating bullets all over the place. This is another sign that people will be fairly chill at the reception, usually talking and playing games as opposed to, you know, doing crazy dance floor gymnastics and jumping all over the place and dancing nonstop all the time WHICH THEY DEFINITELY ENDED UP DOING. I have no idea how they did it. Heck, their Grandma was on the floor! Geoff and I were sweating bullets just standing there and Grandma was dancing it up in the middle of a hundred some people. We were definitely impressed, and then even more impressed when one of the guests decided to toss ice into the mouths of people dancing which was a pretty ingenious idea. Anyway – it was pretty amazing and we were so happy to be there and be part of their fantastic party. Congratulations, to Emily and Charlie, and dance on, you crazy party guests. :)

So when we booked client Jeff we thought it would be confusing until we realized that I could just refer to my Geoff as “Geoff with a beard.” Then we found out that Jeff also had a beard. So there were two bearded Geoffs/Jeffs. Then we decided we could refer to them by Geoff with a “G” and Jeff with a “J” but on the actual day of, this pretty much went out the window and we resorted to just having both of them respond whenever I said “Geoff!/Jeff!” and reacting based on process of elimination to whether or not I was having them pose or move out of the way/get me a glass of water.

I didn’t meet Jeff or Karen until the rehearsal, and Geoff didn’t meet either one of them til their wedding, but it was like INSTANT BEST FRIENDS (they either feel the same way or are totally freaked out that I just wrote that). Karen spent a majority of her middle school years seeing the same embarrassing ska bands that I did and has since moved on to stalking Pearl Jam (me tooooo!). Jeff likes bowling and baseball and has a beard and those are the only three requirements that Geoff bases his friendships on, so they were set. They live in D.C. which disappoints us a lot or else we’d be inviting ourselves over to their place a lot but we’ll have to settle for the occasional Facebook, “Hey, what’s up?” and remember how much this wedding totally ruled.

We have a special place in our hearts for Kelly and John. Maybe it was the fact that they couldn’t decide whether or not to play Queen, Prince, or Bruce Springsteen for their first dance. Or maybe it was because we’re pretty big into modernist architecture and they’re both architects. Or maybe it’s because they were married at CAM, Raleigh’s Contemporary Art Museum, and we were married at Artspace, another art museum down the street. Or maybe it’s because their favorite show is the Walking Dead. Or maybe it’s because they’re in Costa Rica for their honeymoon and that’s where we went too. :)

Or maybe it’s just because they are awesome. Besides, they did make their own signs and invitations with John’s graphic design talent. They also made their own reception lighting… which is something we’ve never seen (yep – all of those glowing and non-glowing cubes hanging from the ceiling were hand-made by Kelly and John). But besides all of our mutual interests and their outward awesomeness, they are also very sweet, genuine people who wanted their wedding to be a good time with lots of happy candids of their friends. And Geoff, myself, and Randy (the DJ) can all vouch for the fact that their reception was outstanding and a good time with lots of happy people to say the least. I knew they’d be a rowdy reception crowd when they starting “Woooo!”ing during the first kiss at the ceremony. ;) So thank you to Kelly and John, who were nothing but sweet and amazing and adorable, and their lovely family and friends for showing us a fantastic Saturday night despite the rain.
