At Home with John+Anna.

We have been so lucky over the past few years to gain some family portrait clients who make us feel like we’re part of their own family and we just love them so so much that we could squeeze them all to pieces. This is one of those families. Last year we met Anna, John, their daughter Lou, and their pup Keva, and they ran around and we photographed them being adorable. Lou was talkative to her parents, but was semi skeptical of us as most two year olds are (why are these people in my house?).

Fast forward a year and a half, and we suddenly and inexplicably gained all of Lou’s trust, and she immediately launched into a detailed speech regarding tigers, dinosaurs, and pajamas with feet upon our arrival. She sometimes prefers to eat breakfast while wearing a helmet, and insisted on having a temporary tattoo to match Mr. Geoff’s real tattoo. She also has a new little brother, Gus, who is just as friendly, only without words. He prefers spending his time chewing on giraffes and smiling happily at everyone.

We crashed Matchbox cars! We made pretend nighttime with a tent! We gave a full sleeve of temporary tattoos to a 3 year old! At some point a very scary monkey also made an appearance, and we might’ve asked if John and Anna would give us ice cream (they did). It was the best day.

Also, if you’re curious, Anna is a professional illustrator and does some pretty rad artwork of adorable kids and pigs and once drew a picture of myself, Geoff, and our two cats riding in a Viking ship.

Elizabeth and Bryan are planning a March wedding in Charleston, SC but have thus far put off taking any sort of engagement pictures as they dreaded having their pictures taken.  Of course, they were awesome to work with and Bryan was goofy the entire time and kept Elizabeth laughing, so we think it was pretty painless for them after all. :D The pair met in Austin at a bar when Elizabeth asked him to watch her drink and the rest is pretty much history! Bryan is now a mechanic in Raleigh and Elizabeth owns a corporate event planning business and they’ve happily made North Carolina their home. They introduced us to the awesome downtown bar Clockwork (which has an amazing interior!) and we are incredible gracious for their hospitality in letting us shoot a few photos there. We then ran about downtown to get some more urban type shots and had a great time getting to know this fantastic couple!

So our friend Amber of Raimbow Tree made some new awesome  headbands, hats, gloves, and other adorable crafty things for spring! Of course, this called for a spring version of our previous post with Alaskan Kate and Raimbow Tree.  Amber brought a giant tub full of gear, dressed Kate up, and we trekked out into a field to have our product/model photo shoot! I was super excited to hang out with my ladies, root through all of Amber’s awesome new products, and photograph Kate… who needs basically no instruction whatsoever (except to NOT look at Amber or Geoff because one of them would crack up and we’d have to start all over). We had a great time and, despite Kate’s serious and soultry model face, we laughed our way through all of this.

Kate, who’s a teacher, looks like she’s about to go kick Rainbow Brite’s butt in these pictures. I think it’s the headband coupled with the socks.

HAHAHA We all titled the following shots as Emerging because of the following:

Amber: Hey… why don’t we get one like, you know, of you emerging from the woods?

Kate: …Like what?

Amber: Like, get back into the woods… and just come out!

Carolyn: Grab onto those branches! Look up and to the right!

Amber: And just… come out!! We need more movement!!

Kate: WHAT?!

Hahahaha. I love the way these turned out despite me and Amber shouting contradicting directions at Kate while she emerged from the woods, hahaha. Cracks me up.

The shots below are titled The Post-Apocolyptic Shoe which we thought was very Anthropologie… and they’ll probably steal this idea as soon as they see it. This came about via the following:

Kate: There’s a gnarled, chewed-up shoe back there.

Amber: Let’s use it!

Carolyn: Really?

::Amber pokes the shoe a few times with the end of a stick and very carefully picks it up by the tip of the stick and hands it to Kate::

Amber: Here it is! Don’t let the gloves touch it.

Carolyn: Okay! Well. Um. Put the shoe over your shoulder. Look at me. Okay good, now look down at the shoe. Perfect.

HAHA.
